I have been asked by a colleague to assist him with a problem in his Laptop
His operating System is XP Pro and he is using Norton as Antivirus.

1. Just after starting his laptop, the following window appears:
"DefWatch.exe Application error
The exception unknown software exception (oxco6d007e) occurred in the
application at location ox7c81eb33."

I ran autoruns.exe and found:
"DefWatch Monitors and maintains virus definition - c:\program files\symantec antivirus\defwatch.exe"
The appropriate box is ticked.
Is there a problem with his AV program? Does he have to uninstall and reinstall the Norton AV?

2. On the window "Display Properties" (Control Panel  Display  Display Properties) all the icons allowing changes to the Desktop appearance are locked
(there is a small red square on each icon)

Asking for assistance. Many thanks
