Probably missing a driver. What is the make and model of the computer and a service tag number if there is one?

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Motherboard manufacturer and motherboard model?

You can use SIW System Information for Windows - http://www.gtopala.com/ to see this and more info about your system.

Take a look: http://support.asus.com/download/download....l=P5VD2-MX%20SE

I just realized that AFK, etc...is a headset. Nothing suggested here will resolve your problem with that...unless it's related to lack of sound transmission by the soundcard of your computer. Can you hear any sounds, by any means...other than your headset...from your system?

Do music CDs play normally? Do video CDs produce sound normally?
