Hello,

I think I have a virus on my laptop. The symptoms were originally that my home page was defaulting to about:blank no matter what I tried to do. I then did a system restore to a date prior to this happening and things are better in that I no longer have my home page hijacked. However I get a message saying there is a Trojan horse every time I open IE.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Here's the log:

Hello andrewsz and welcome to BleepingComputer.

You are using an outdated version of Hijackthis. Please download and install the newest version, v1.99.1, from this HijackThis download site.

You have HijackThis running from a temporary or zip folder. Any backup files HJT creates during the repair process will not be secure if left in this folder.

Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT. You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. Unzip HijackThis into this folder. Please delete any other copies of HijackThis and run HJT only from this new folder. If required a tutorial is here: Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

After doing the above:

Configure Windows to enable viewing of Hidden and System files.

Start HJT and click on the SCAN button. Put a check mark in front of the following lines if they still show:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [logon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\logon.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [logon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\logon.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [logon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\logon.exe

With ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, click on Fix Checked.

Open Windows Explorer (Windows key+e), navigate to and delete the following files and folders if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\logon.exe <--File DO NOT delete the similar named file winlogon.exe

Reboot normally.

[logon.exe] is most likely the Backdoor.Zins.B Trojan. "Backdoor.Zins.B is a back door Trojan horse program with keylogging functions that steals Internet banking details from certain Internet Banking Web sites. " I would suggest you change your passwords, particularly any banking passwords.

Please post a fresh HJT log.

Download the following file and save it to your desktop:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'.

Reboot and I need to see one more HJT log.

Also, it appears you are running Grisoft AVG6. I don't believe Grisoft is providing updates for that version anymore. AVG7 can be obtained from here, and it's still free for personal use.
