btw - i read the posting intro on the hijackthis forum - do i HAVE to use the DSS program? - why can't i simply post my HJT log?

This is the best, recommended program for our HJT Techs to be able to help you.

Use no other programs other than HJT to provide logs.

And please be patient. Our Techs are inundated with Logs. Remember - all are volunteers here

ok - i did miss the why... i will install it - on the disclaimer - does it remove its own temp files or other temp files?

Run the DSS scan and post the log here.
