I recently came across applications for running core software auditing for OS's which is a great way to assist in diagnosing problems as well as learning more about your Comp. Specifically "Process Explorer"

Would you mind checking this website out and giving me your take on the apps there? Maybe you have something better.

Yes that is a good site with free software. Regmon helped me figure out some malware problems on a customers PC.

The folks at sysinternals have consistantly impressed me with their products. Free.
patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...
