Hi, I am running windows xp professional edition sp2 and my desktop has been running fine for the past few years. All of the sudden I turned it on one day and after the xp logo came a blank screen which never transitioned to the login screen. I can run my computer in safe mode with no issues. Yes, I have tried reinstalling the graphics card driver (Radeon X300) and I have tried running chkdsk check. No, I didn't install anything recently before it happend. I really don't want to have buy a new graphics card.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Does it go into safemode by itself or do you tap the F8 key? Sounds like you might have to run fixmbr

no, when I put it into safemode, my computer works. The blank screen is if I try to boot normally.

Once in Safe Mode, check your Event Viewer for errors around the last time that you couldn't boot into normal mode. To do this, go to Start...Run...and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Check the logs there (particularly the System log file). If you see any errors you can double click on them to get the details and post them back here for us to have a look at.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

The last thing that happend in event viewer before this issue started was that Windows SP3 failed to install.

I think that the install program of SP3 didn't clean up the files.
