Hello I m needing help. A couple of weeks ago I had someone work on my PC because it was going off and rebooting. The PC is a Dell Dimension 5100. I'm running Windows XP home. He kept it for a couple of weeks and during this time he backed up the system and reinstalled it and put on Windows XP Professional. This did not fix the problem but he did find that the Disk drive/burner was causing the problem. So he installed a new one. He also installed some software that I did not have before. Well now I can not get my speakers to play in digital. I have a Sound Blaster live sound card and I reinstalled the software with my disk. The speakers are Boston Digital BA735 that I had left over from my old Gateway. Before the fix they work great. I have done everything I can think. I ever tried a download from the sound blaster site that did not help. Also my printer is a Dell all-in-one 942 and it prints but I can not fine the Icon so I can scan. I reloaded the disk but this did not make any change. One more thing he did not back up my email (I was using Microsoft outlook) so I lost all my contacts and old emails. Is there a place that it may have saved them with out being back up so I may get them back? The bought the PC in 2005 from Dell the warranty went out in August of last year. Thanks for all your help.

Hmmm...I think you need to have a talk with...the person you previously had "fix" your system.

Some "fix."

Understood ...but I believe that personal responsibility is still something that humans owe to each other.

If I tell you that I'm going to help you...and then proceed to do less than that...I should be held accountable, whether I am paid or not. For a person to do a system reinstall that is less than satisfactory to the owner/user...that's just not acceptable in my world.

Make that person accountable for his actions.

 I agree with 100%. I do Heating and A/C on my days off and that is the way I try to do my business. But anyway just so information on my problem would be great to see if I maybe get something fixed myself. Thanks again for the help.

Check your Device Manager to see if there are any red X's or yellow !'s there. To do this, go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
