Hello:

After reinstalling Windows XP on
Manufacturer: Compaq 061
Model: ER97AA-ABA SR1803WM NA620 - I have no SOUND

Volumn Control would not launch - ERROR MSG: "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware then click Add Hardware - I did that with no positive results.

Device Manager - Other Devices -has yellow question mark and black exclamation mark over PCI Driver and SM Bus Controller

I went to "device Manager" and updated both drivers - but drivers still would not install.
After rebooting computer - "new hardware" found for both devices - hardware wizard message: "Hardware for this device was not installed because the Wizard cannot find necessary software".

Add Hardware Wizard Error Msg: PCI Driver & SM Bus Controller - "The drivers for this device is not installed. (Code 28)"

I've exhausted all that I know to do and would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give to help resolve these problems.

Thank you kindly

The correct drivers for your sound card (audio) are the first one's at the top of this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...3685&dlc=en

Download it and double click it to launch the installer.

I would guess that the SM Bus controller is one of the others - but I'm not sure which.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

FWIW: Useful info re your system: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...product=1843685

That board reflects ATI chipset and I suspect/guess that the ATI driver download includes any chipset drivers that may be necessary. You may want to remove current drivers for video and reinstall or update same.
