For some reason when I click #6 on my number pad, it open up My Computer. Does anyone know the solution to this nuisance problem?

That's strange... because shortcut key to open My Computer is Windows Logo+E. I may have missed something, check the list of keyboard shortcuts for Windows XP here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301583

Make sure no other key is pressed

Hello.

I think you have your shortcut key set to Num 6 by accident.

When you right click the My Computer icon on your desktop, does it show the system specs, or the shortcut properties window?

If it shows the shortcut one, click the shortcut tab, then reset the shortcut key.

Meanwhile, I'm going to try to find where those shortcut keys are stored for future reference.

With Regards,

I think that will require CTRL + ALT + 6 then.

Hello.

I think that will require CTRL + ALT + 6 then.

Nope, you can set just Num 6.

Still trying to find where those settings are...

Hello.

Still don't know where it is stored, but I found a tool that can find any shortcuts with that key assigned to it  .

Note: I put the program file through an online scanner with clean results. However, I can't 100% gurantee its safety.
  • Please download Shortcuts Map.zip to your desktop and extract the setup.exe
  • Run the setup.
  • The program will run when setup is done. Under the Shortcut Key column, find Num 6.
  • Select that entry, and click Change.
  • Click the Shortcut tab.
  • Click in the Shortcut Key box and hit the backspace.
  • Click Apply and exit.
Does this problem still occur?

With Regards,
The Panda

You're very welcome.

Do you have any idea how this happened in the first place? Had you tried to create a shortcut to My Computer recently? It would be interesting to know for future reference.

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
