Yup, them laptop goblins are back again in mine !

I have a HP Pavillion dv8310ca, with an AMD64 mobil processor, 1024 of ram, and a 120 gb c drive.

A few weeks ago, all 4 of my usb ports stopped recognizing anything I plugged in, my logitech mouse, card reader, mp3 hookup, and flash drives all work fine on other laptops, yet on mine they aren't recognized. I went into device manager, uninstalled all the usb drivers, rebooted, and they were all detected and re-installed fine, yet they still did not recognize.

Now today, my keyboard was workin normal, it just stopped, and now the laptop wont even boot up......the normal HP black screen comes up, but it beeps twice now, and ascreen comes up with " Phoenix cME FirstBIOS Notebook Pro", then underneath is my CPU, RAM, hd, cd/dvd rom info, and at the bottom of that it reads "ERROR 0211 : Keyboard Error", and tells me to Press F1 to resume, or f10 to Setup.

I cant even do that, my keyboard is not working ! Cant plug in an external keyboard to check due to the fact my usb ports are not working either ! ! ! !

GRRRRRRRR.......I hate them goblins ! !

Someone has suggested it might be my BIOS battery. Im not one to open up the laptop and tinker around trying to find it, I'll leave that to the pro's at the store.

Just yesterday, I saved all my important stuff onto DVD's, and the plan today was to dump everything and do a complete clean and new install.

I keep it clean all the time, defragged and up to date with all updates and drivers and such, and run CCleaner at least once a week. The cache is also emptied every few days. I don't think it's a bug or virus or worm.

Any suggestions as to what might be the problem ?

Can you press F10 and get to setup or doesn't the keyboard respond?

Well here's the latest update....

The keyborad gave up on working last week, popped up some 0211 error on startup, so I finally broke down and took it into the computer shop.

Turns out the motherboard is toast. They had it apart and showed me, no spillage or dust or anything, looked just like new !

The warrenty just ran out a few months ago, so now I'm looking at either getting a new motherboard put in, or just getting a new laptop. I am leaning towards just getting the new motherboard put in. Anyone got any suggestions on where to get a new motherboard ? It was suggested to check ebay, but on a purchase such at this, I'm a bit leary about getting it off of ebay.

I just did a quick google and found this site which has it for $320.00. I'll look a little more and see if I can find a better price.

Edit: I looked at four three other sites, and they all have the same price. I will not look at ebay.

With the cost of motherboards, I generally recommend just replacing the computer. You'll invest $320 in a motherboard, then you'll spend a lot of time taking it apart, putting it together, and troubleshooting any issues with the assembly - and you'll still have the same old system that you had before you started.

You can find laptops on sale for under $400 - and you won't have to put any work into them in order to get them to start.

I've replaced 2 Dell system boards off eBay, $75 each, but I had my fingers crossed each time. I have a buddy with a small shop in Montana and he claims he gets ripped off worse from other sites than eBay. It's a crapshoot
