basic question really, I have a fairly simple 40gb ps3, mainly used for movies as I have a projector and newly built screen, I often aquire high definition movies that i like to view, but they are in various formats for pc, the converting process is painstakingly long and I just dont have the patience... so anyone used a linux distro on a ps3? do the component video outputs actually perform at atleast 1080i?

thanks

mck

Hi mckooter, and welcome to BC!

I'm no expert on the matter of High Def and such. Yellow Dog Linux is probably what you're looking for. Yellow Dog is designed for the PS3 (and other devices with Cell processors) and is supposed to have great HD support (I say "supposed to" because I don't know, that's just what they say).

i cant stand paying for a linux distro but im not sure if the regular distros would have correct support to actually produce high def out of the component video, yellow dog atleast requires it, i assume it has such support

As far as I know Yellow Dog is free, but "enhanced" (paid) account holders get preferential treatment. You should be able to download from the second link I posted.

I have a sixth sense for these things, it comes in handy when you're always broke like me!
