Hi,
I have a Compaq Evo 610c notebook. The other day I fired it up to discover that the screen remained totally black, no backlighting. I know that it is not the mobo because I can hook it up to an external monitor and everything is fine. I also know that it's not the FN keys. So, before I try to hunt up another screen somewhere I would like to know if there is any other piece of hardware failure that might account for this.
Thanks

Nope. None that I can think of.

Good luck finding a new monitor. Thier a pain in the butt to find and are expensive if you have some one else do it.

Sorry to hear your loss of a laptop monitor :thumbsup:

Thanks for your sympathy. Actually finding another screen is not that big of a deal. I have already seen several on various 2nd hand sites including Ebay and none of them more than 25 bucks. As for letting someone else do it, well, with a good manual in one hand and the right screwdriver in the other... That and a little googling is how I learned to build my first PC.

Is it just the backlight out or is the whole monitor out? If it's just the backlight it could be the inverter. I just replaced one of these on my laptop (very easy job) for around $90.

Thanks for that info. It did indeed turn out to be the inverter. A piece of electronics I'd never even heard of before. But it did save me the expense of a new screen.

Inverter? O.o

Learn somethin new every day. {Not a fan of laptops}

At least you didn't have to replace the entire screen.
