Hi guys. I`m fighting a ton of viruses that infected my PC. I cleaned it with Panda antivirus, Kaspersky antivirus 6.0 and 8.0.357,
SuperAntispyware, Spy Sweeper, Ad-Aware 2007 and Kaspersky is still discovering not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.Virtumonde.tmj . I did the cleaning in Safe mode but still it pops out. The antivirus/antispyware programs removed about 300 threats but it is still a problem.
I used HijackThis and here is HJ log:

Hi, scoutjohny

Welcome.

The wierd part is that this thing (not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.Virtumonde.tmj) keeps poping out in the sistem volume information/ restore!!! blink.gif

That is because Windows backups some of these files throughout System Restore.

Before we reset System Restore, lets take a deeper look:

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner (Use internet Explorer)

Click on Accept

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Posted ImageDownload Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from here or here to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of both, the main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply.
If the files are too long, attach them to a reply:
  • Scroll down to [Manage Attachments]
  • Browse to the following folder:
    • C:\Deckard\System Scanner
  • Click Upload to upload these files one by one
  • Submit your reply

:) Before i reply with the files i have to tell you that i have Kaspersky 6.0 installed on my PC
and i had Kaspersky 8.0 (2009) yesterday. I did some more scanning (all day today  and cleaned 75 more
files. Currently, i`m running Kaspersky online scanner and will provide the it`s response from cleaning as well as
dss files!
I must say that i couldn`t wait for some of you guys to respond. I`m glad you did.
You`ll hear from me soon!
Cheers
Nikola - Scoutjohny

I don`t know if i have mentioned but my pc is protected with kaspersky 6.0
On line scanner doesn`t want to run (it downloaded all the files and virus databases and
gives me following text :
Update process FAILED. No further antivirus actions can be performed!

Attention, you must be online to activate Kaspersky Online Scanner, since the latest Anti-Virus bases version must be downloaded prior to scan. Otherwise we cannot guarantee detection of latest viruses. [21])
maybe the kaspersky 6.0 is interfering with on line scanner. I don`t know!
But it`s my only firewall and i don`t think it`s a good idea to uninstall it.

Need your advice. What to do?

Scoutjohny

Hi, scoutjohny

Run DSS and post its reports. As an alternative to Kaspersky, please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Do the Malwarebites scan prior to DSS.

Hi, scoutjohny

Download the enclosed folder. [attachment=5501:LSAfix.zip]Save and extract its contents to the desktop. It is a folder containing a Registry Entries file, LSAfix.reg . Once extracted, double click on the LSAfix.reg file and select Yes when prompted to merge it into the registry.

Restart the computer.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Now close all windows and browsers, other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Close Hijackthis.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the entire contents of the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of it and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    [kill explorer]C:\WINDOWS\system32\qrdfonpr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\anxaxedy.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\tibhtyky.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\frihsufh.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddgiRqru.ini2 C:\WINDOWS\_MSRSTRT.EXE EmptyTemp[start explorer]
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Hi, scoutjohny
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process, choose Yes.
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programmes changing them. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK..

Create a Restore point:
  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  • In the System Restore dialog box, click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
  • Type a description for your restore point, such as "After Cleanup", then click Create.

The rest looks clear. How is the computer doing?

 to you JSntgRvr, you`r the man! :)
Everything looks great. Thanks for everything you`ve done.
I would like to ask you another favor. My girlfriend`s PC is turning itself off all the time
and i suspect a virus (or a multiple of viruses) to be the cause. Can i, again :), ask one
of you to help me with the issue (if it is a virus/Trojan/malware problem)?

I have to inspect my father`s PC for infection too, so i`ll probably be in touch soon !

I wish you all the best and thanks a million to you JSntgRvr and all friends
at BleepingComputers community!

My PC is healthy, again  !!!

Post a Hijackthis log on your girlfriend's computer here in this topic. Your father will need to wait, as it will be confusing handling two computers at a time

Hi, scoutjohny

You ran the scan in Safe Mode. That may hinder viruses active while in Normal Mode. As I see it, there is no sign of malware in this log. Is there an specific problem you want me to address?

No. The log is clear.

I don't know what the following line in my fathers HijackThis log means:

Empty Browser Helper Object, part of Windows Live Messenger. It should have no effect in your system. I only remove malware.

There is nothing wrong in that system.
