Hi folks, I'm hopeful you can help me out. Recently my system has begun to "hang", and when I go into Task Manager my CPU is pegged at 100%. Usually the program that's using 98-99% of the CPU is CIDAEMON.EXE, but I've also seen SVCHOST.EXE do the same thing on one occassion. I've run NAV, and it's not picking up on anything.

I should also note that when I click on the Norton Internet Security icon in my tray I get the following error message:
AXWIN Frame Window: NMain.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\jconsole.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

After I click thorugh this error message twice, Norton comes up.

As background info, I d/l a fair amount of video and audio through WinMX. (I know, I know, p2ps are the breeding grounds of all sorts of nasty things!) I've run Ad-Aware and Spybot and cleaned up the typical cookies and registry items. I've posted the HJT log below. Looking forward to your advice ... beachguy.

I would remove spykiller as spybot and ad-aware are much m,ore superior products.

Please fix these:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rd.yahoo.com/customize/sbcydsl/defa...hoo.sbc.com/dsl

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://rd.yahoo.com/customize/sbcydsl/defa...//www.yahoo.com

Thats all i see really.

Please run two online virus scans:

http://housecall.antivirus.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Then let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

Grinler,
Thanks for the advice. After I fixed the four items and ran the two online virus scans, however, I had a repeat of my CPU getting pinned at 100% utilization. Bummer.

Click on start, then run, and type services.msc and press enter.

Then look for the microsoft indexing service. Double click on that and set the startup to disabled and then stop the service. Lets see if that fixes your problem.
