Currently, I am unable to get on the internet because it is so slow and I kept getting popups. I've disconnect the computer from the router but the programs keep trying to connect, hence the "Work Offline" popup. I am working on my laptop now.
There's a fake Windows Alert icon in the tray next to the clock that keeps popping up alert ballons that opened a fake Window Alert Center. My automatic updates keeps turning off on restart.

*Here are my scan results with Mcaffe (Real Time Scan & Manual Scan Performed):

Cutwail!rootkit (Removed) (twice)
Adware-ISM (repaired-removed)
Adware-PurityScan(repaired-removed)
Exploit-ByteVerify (quarantined)
Generic Downloader.x (repaired-removed) (also listed twice)
Generic MultiDripper.d (repaired-removed once, removed on second scan)
Generic.dx (repaired-removed)
JV/Shinwow (Quarantined)
New Malware.j (Quarantined)
Spyware-Webhancer (detected - unable to remove) (found six times on 4 different scans)
spyware-webhance.dr (detected - unable to remove) (found twice on two scans)
(Plus a number of cookie files)

*When I first ran AdAware it found and deleted a number of items(some after a restart). When I ran AdAware in regular and safe mode after running SUPERAntiSpyware Alert it finds nothing though I am still infected.

*I've run SuperAntiSpyware Alert in Safe Mode. In regular mode, I get a blue screen about 30 seconds into the scan.
SUPERAntiSpyware Alert found a removed a number of items after both the McAfee Scans and the AdAware scans, but I am still having the same issue. I didn't write down what it deleted. Now it finds nothing.

*My homepage keeps wanting to change to "C:/WINDOWS/system32/spywarewarning.mht" but SUPERAntiSpyware Alert is blocking it. I tried to delete the file in question but it says the file is in use.

*A Program - utorrent - reinstalled itself after I removed it from the program list when I was first trying to locate the problem. I don't use this computer to download any torrents and I didn't install it. I've ended the process in task manager.

*I keep getting the following popup that looks like a windows alert- on or offline:

(Headline) Critical System Warning!
Your system is probably infected with the lastest version of Spyware.Cyberlog-X.
Type: Spyware
Infected Length: 266,129 bytes
Risk: High
Affected Systems: Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, 2000 Server, Windows XP
Behavior: Cyberlog-X is a spyware program that monitors user activity, logs keystrokes, and track Web sites visited.
Symptims: Low Internet connection speed
Low System Performance
Secyrity center alerts (their typo not mine)
Strange pop up windows
Protection: Click OK to download antispyware software

*Here's my HiJackThis Log. I know I've provided a lot of information but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Please help! :D

Hi,

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Then, * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

I had to download to my USB drive since I cant get on the internet any more. I save the two files than transfered them to my desktop. When I try to drop the Windows xp file on to Combofix nothing happens. Even when I click on ComboFix to open nothing happens. When I connect to the internet it will let me go to sites like CNN or MSNBC but not to BleepingComputer of Download.com or any of the three download links for ComboFix. It keeps taking me to MSN search and when ever I click on a link on the search result it takes me to some other page. What should I do

Hi,

Please try to run Combofix in Windows Safe mode, because your McAfee may interfere here.
It's also a good idea to transfer it via your USB again, because McAfee may already deleted some Combofix related components here.

Also let me know if you get any errors.

If that still didn't work in Safe mode, rename Combofix.exe to Pencraft.exe and try to run it then.

Ok I did end up having to rename the file and I ran it in safe mode. When I came back to the computer it appeared to have restarted in regular mode (all my icons were in the tray and my desktop wallpaper was back) so I don't know if that comprimised the report but here it goes:

One quick note: I've noticed the popups have stopped but I haven't ventured onto the internet yet. I await your advice. (New note: something is still trying to connect to the internet because a "Work Offline" window has just popped up.)

Hi,

Your system is still infected, so next steps should solve it...

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yckdttvk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cumptnhv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\khfFXnLE.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Melissa Smith\Application Data\Microsoft\dtsc\20160.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kvttdkcy.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spywarewarning2.mht
C:\WINDOWS\system32\etlqnemu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ygkjfmkw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhwxwjxo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\asctrlsu.exe
DirLook::

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{B1A64443-6FCA-41CE-8D51-5F8991257555}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\khfFXnLE]

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

This looks OK again.

Navigate to and delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\BMdff9d6e9.xml

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
