Pc passwords

I turn my pc on and it asks for a password. I haven't got this password. I normally click the x and it defaults to a desktop page and i just carry on.
Now when i click the cross it says your password has expired, put in the old password then a new one. I don't know the old one. How can I get round/or rid of this ?
