I'm quite sure I have this virus due to the symptoms matching what should happen. I have downloaded the SmitfraudFix.exe file, but I cannot get this file to open in normal or safe mode.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help.

What happens when you try to open it? Do you get any error messages? Did you save it to the desktop?

Yes, it is on the desktop. When I double-click the icon, I get a question asking if I trust the authenticity of the file...and I click "run". Nothing happens. When I try double-clicking the icon again, the cursor briefly changes to an hourglass, then quickly back to the normal cursor without opening the program.

Does it have anything to do with an anti-virus program I may have running (AVG)? Do I need to disable that program to be able to run SmitfraudFix?

I am running Windows XP if that helps. The file still won't open.

If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move smitfraudFix.exe to the root of the system drive (usually C:\), and run it from there.

SmitfraudFix is not malware. It is a highly specialized fix tool.

Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as SmitfraudFix may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them. Either have your anti-virus ignore SmitfraudFix or temporarily disable it until you run the tool.

Hello,
So I am having the same problem, I downloaded the SmitfraudFix.exe file to my desktop but when I try to run it. It quickly flashes a screen then disappears. I moved it to the C: drive and it just saved a whole new folder called smitfraudfix and has about 28 different files in it; this has all been done in safe mode. The files Range from
404Fix
Agent.OMZ.Fix
beep_2K_original.sys
beep_XP_original.sys
dumphive
exit
GenericRenosFix

SmitfraudFix is the only windows command and when I click on it, it will flash a screen then disappear.
And so forth.....

Hoping you guys can telll me what I should do next
Thanks in advance for the help

O yeah I am running windows vista

Welcome to BC Wally1314

If you have an issue or problem you would like to discuss, please start your own topic. Doing that will help to avoid the confusion that often occurs when trying to help two or more members at the same time in the same thread. Even if your problem is similar to the original poster's problem, the solution could be different based on the kind of hardware, software, system requirements, etc. you are using and the presence of other malware. Further, posting for assistance in someone else's topic is not considered proper forum etiquette.

Thanks for your cooperation.
