i have run spyware + adaware. task manager will instantly close once i press CTRL+ALT+DEL. anytime i open a program that has a specific word(i.e. virus removal) it will instantly close. basically the virus is trying to eliminate possibilty of removal. it is odd, i create a word document titled: virus, and when i open it it will get closed instantly. when i create a document titled: george (etc.) it will open just fine. this may be a bigger problem than HJT can handle. i have no experience with HJT so please just help me out here!!!

Hi Robot626,

You may want to print these instructions, since you're closing your Web Browser.

Download CWShredder from the below link and unzip it into a directory. Start CWShredder and click on the FIx button to have it remove all CWS infections it finds.

Download CWShredder from the following site:

CWShredder Download Site

After you download the program, unzip it into a directory. Make sure all browser windows are closed and double click on the cwshredder.exe to start the program. When the program is loaded click on the "Check for Update" button, and if it finds an new version it will download it. You should then double click on cwshredder.exe again and click on the "FIX" button (not the "Scan only" button) and let it scan your computer.

How to remove CoolWebSearch with CWShredder

Download the program Hoster which gives you the ability to restore the default host file back onto your machine. To do so, download the Hoster program and run it. When it opens, click on the Restore Original Hosts button and then exit Hoster.

*Open Hijackthis, take another scan and place a checkmark next to these entries.

Reboot the Computer in normal mode, then click the "AddReply" button and post a new log in this thread for further review and evaluation.

I've done some research on this entry and found some information here. It does not seem to be causing any problems. I would not remove it unless I checked with My Internet Provider to see if it's needed to run their services. Please advise when you re-post.
