K this is going to be almost as vague as saying I have a car when you ask me what brand.

Background:
I Have a Windows 2000 Machine
Back 2 maybe 3 years ago I was playing with my Registry. I Changed/Added something that had an effect on installing programs. However I didnít really install much on the machine so I havenít realized till recently what has been going on. (saying 2 maybe 3 years ago because i don't remember what i did/when i did it)

Adverse Effect:
When I Install a Program it installs just fine. I can put an Icon on Desktop or in Quick Launch. in Programs from the Start Menu itís a different story. The Program Menu seems to be Frozen itís the exact same it was 2-3 years ago. I have Uninstalled/Installed/Reinstalled Programs Many times. And still has the same Programs Menu. Now however Iím starting to Uninstall some programs I donít use anymore because its only a 10GIG Drive. So the programs are no longer there yet the icons stay in Programs Menu (I can Manually Add/Delete) Now that I removed the Programs the Icons do Change to ďblankĒ Icons. Nothing I install will show up in Programs Menu.

Things I have done
Reinstalled Windows right over top of Old Windows Ė Nadda

Reason for Not just Formatting and starting Over:
It might be a Nuisance but I wanna know what it was after all this time! :flowers:

SO IF ANYONE KNOWS THIS ENTRY OR THINKS THEY CAN FIND IT OR FINDS IT PLEASE LET ME KNOW =)

EDIT: BTW Please don't respond back with "did you make a backup?" No i didn't i normally don't keep things this Long :trumpet:

*Hangs head down low* I know I know I should be Punished

Nope wasn't in Group Policy I was in registry, I always am. =)

That Link information would just cause me to go Apey on the computer.

Apey = To act Like Ape
To Act like Ape = Jump on top of machine, slouch curl toes around the sides, smear feces all over the machine, and room withholding the machine, jump up and down. the machine tips over, I smack my head on table/wall get on Bleeping Computer website 6 months later and continue this thread saying that link didn't work.
:flowers:

Have you never run any anti-spyware program that would have backed up your registry? Most of them do.

Hi. Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section.

Right click on explorer and export the key as a registry file on your desktop called explorer.reg.

Do the same thing for the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Then right click on each file and click edit, and post their contents as a reply here.

Will do. i'm at work currently I'll bring those Logs in tomarrow.

BTW FYI I got a chuckle out of this bolded part "Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu."

Enthusiast:
