Ok I just got my new comptuer up and running and I installed all the updates as far as I know and running Windows XP SP2. I also loaded IE7. I started having problems with tons of popups, among other things. I tried things to get rid of it, spybot search and destroy showed I had it but wouldn't get rid of it. Finally I got spywaredoctor spyware removal thing, and it wouldn't get rid of it until I eventually ran it in safe mode with networking, which I had to do twice. It is saying the comptuer is clean now, but I am having problems still - first, when I try to go on IE7 it won't load. Sometimes on certain pages will will slow to a crawl and I can at least get a page up before it won't go anywhere else. And when I went to my site, I noticed the other thing - where I have banner (this is not an ad thing, this is code I have set up so it grabs a photo out of a folder and a link from a file and randomly displays stuff for only my own site) and it is displaying ads for other sites I've never heard of. It is only that computer it is doing that on (I am posting this from my laptop) so I know it's a virus or something. I have Mcafee on there for anti-virus like I do on this laptop. Everything on the computer seems to work ok except for the internet. All the computers that are networked together are fine. Please help. Here is the hijack file:

Hello Merlina Thalia,

Please disable Spyware Doctor while we run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, as it will prevent it from running.

To disable Spyware Doctor from running on your system startup:
1. First, disable the OnGuard Tools. This way, when you exit Spyware Doctor, these tools won't stay resident in the background.
2. Click the "Settings" button on the left side.
3. Click the "Startup Settings" link.
4. Uncheck "Run at Windows Startup".
5. Click the "Apply" button.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi I apologize I haven't responded sooner, I haven't had a chance to try this until now. I ran the mbam and the hijack this which I am posting below. I am now able to use IE but it still seems slow.

Hi Merlina Thalia,

Your computer is heavily infected so we will run ComboFix.

You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

You need to disable your McAfee Antivirus and Spyware Doctor before running ComboFix, as they will prevent it from running.

To disable McAfee Virusscan:
Please navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for a Posted Image sign.
  • right-click it -> chose "Exit."
  • a popup will warn that protection will now be disabled. Click on "Yes" to disable the Antivirus guard.
You succesfully disabled the McAfee Guard.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

To work properly, you must install ComboFix on the Desktop.

When following the instructions please install the Windows XP Recovery Console if you are using XP. <== IMPORTANT
It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

You DO NOT need to have the Windows CD to install Recovery Console!

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

We need Recovery Console because malware damages a lot and causes an instable system - and because of that, it may happen that your computer won't be able to boot anymore. With the Recovery Console installed, there are extra options present to repair whatever malware damaged.
Also, even though you're not infected, the presence of the Recovery Console is a useful feature in case a computer won't boot anymore because of several other reasons. Read  here   what you can do with the Recovery Console.

Extra note: After you have installed the Recovery Console - if you reboot your computer, right after reboot, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well.
Don't select to run the Recovery Console as we don't need it.
By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows.

A caution -
Have no other programs running. Your Task Bar should be clear of any program entries including your Browser.
Do not run Combofix more than once.
Do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed, as this may cause the process to stall or your computer to lock. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your Drive light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work.

Post the ComboFix log.

Is it still infected though after the new report I sent? Because I can get on IE now. I'll read through that and see if I can understand it, it sounds complicated like you can mess up the computer. I shut everything off from the taskbar? Do you mean with control alt delete? I'm not sure what you mean. Or do you mean on the bottom on the right the quick lauch thing? What about the things that run like checking that the motherboard and temp are all right does all that have to be shut off too?

Yes, you are still infected.

Yes, it is a little work on your part. The instructions are written very plainly. Just follow them and you will have no problems. No, the task bar will not do it.

Do you mean with control alt delete? I'm not sure what you mean. Or do you mean on the bottom on the right the quick lauch thing?

No, not control alt delete or th quck lauch.
I told you how to disable McAfee and Spyware Doctor in my previous instructions.

What about the things that run like checking that the motherboard and temp are all right does all that have to be shut off too?

No, that does not need to be turned off. I told you to disable your McAfee antivirus and spyware doctor - nothing else.
