Hi,

Your problem is not malware related. You may want to read this:
http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/wha...fee-lately.html

Also, I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player

Well my computer was working good about 3 days ago. So would it still be McAfee?

-AOL goes very slow after checking password, and doen't want to load my welcome screen. then it just boots me offline.

Thanks

So would it still be McAfee?

I still think so. The only way to find out is to temporary uninstall McAfee (disabling won't help, you need to uninstall it)

as I said, I'm sure it's mcafee, so in case you're still having the same problems and McAfee is UNINSTALLED, then post a new HijackThislog in your next reply.

What problems are you still having?

Also, this is what I posted earlier:

I see you have Viewpoint installed...

  • Viewpoint Media Player

sidenote..

Hi,

* Download Deckard's System Scanner to your Desktop.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • The scan may take a minute. When the scan is complete, a text file will open - main.txt
  • Post the contents of this log in your next reply. Do not post the extra.txt present in that folder. Only post this when being asked.

Hi,

Windows Defender watches the registry for changes, so in your case, when you launch AOL, Windows defender sees the changes and notifies you about it. This is normal. If you don't know how to deal with these notifications - then I suggest you disable Windows Defender from startup.

Also, I see from your log that some AOL components are missing here, so it may be better to reinstall it.

Windows Defender also causes a slowdown, especially in your case since you only have - as I see from your log:

Total Physical Memory: 510 MiB (512 MiB recommended).

And that may explain why your computer is slow. It's already good that you got rid of McAfee here, because the memory present here can't deal with McAfee anyway.

I will reinstall AOL!

What would be some good programs to put on my computer?

-Firewall
-AntiVirus
-AntiSpyware

I already have:

-Spybot
-Ad-Aware

And should I get rid of Windows Defender?

Thanks!

Look in my signature below under Antivirus and Firewalls for the ones I recommend.
Only install 1 Antivirus and Firewall! Because more than 1 are not compatible!

And should I get rid of Windows Defender?

That's your decision. If you find it confusing to handle and don't really know what to do with the alerts it displays, I suggest you remove it - because if you let Windows Defender block everything it alerts (which also means legitimpate entries), then some programs won't work anymore.
