Hello! My desktop background has changed to a clickable message saying "Warning: Spyware threat has been detected on your PC". A small exclamation point in a yellow triangle also periodically pops up in the bottom toolbar on the right with "your computer is slow/people are trying to infect your computer/spyware/infection" messages. Sometimes internet explorer opens randomly to a page of suggested spyware removal programs, and thus far I have recieved a few fake red windows security windows telling me that various things are infecting me. I downloaded Smitfraudfix and ran it in safe mode to no avail. I am a total newbie. My logs follow, thank you for any help!!

Hi,

This looks OK again.

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

I did as you said, and restarted my computer. It froze several times starting up on the first screen that appears, on the screen asking if I wanted to boot up using windows recovery console, and on the blue windows welcome screen. I've had my computer for about 6 months. It has never frozen before. It finally started up just now. Do you know if this is related and/or fixable? The spyware does seem to be gone, though! Thank you for all your help!

Hi,

This is not related.

Do you still have it if you reboot?
From your previous log, I see you were also in the middle of a Windows update, so that may explain it why you had that.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
