I somehow picked up some sort of Zlob this past weekend that set loose a torrent of bogus "anti-spyware/anti-virus" requests. There were three recurring pop-ups (screen shots available if needed). The screen background changed to a blue background with a yellow link saying "you are infected, click here." All of my MS Office shortcuts disappeared and about 8 new *.exe files showed up on the desktop along with a graphic file called blackbird. I didn't click any of the files or links and through the processes I've done so far, they're no longer on the desktop, but I'm not sure I got the whole thing.

I'm running the following:

XP box; all service packs current
Trend Micro Antivirus (current)

So far - here's what I've done:

Disabled System Restore
Booted into safe mode and ran the following, cleaning up the mess found in each one and rebooting into safe mode prior to starting another scan:

Spybot S&D
Stinger
Panda
Kapersky
Ewido
SpyHunter 3
AdAware

My HiJackThis log is attached below.

Hello Tat2dheart,

So far - here's what I've done:
Disabled System Restore

Do NOT disabe System Restore. This rule applies to any manual fixes and is especially true for spyware removal.
That is because disabling System Restore wipes out all restore points.
Should a problem arise during the fix you would have NO good working configuration to go back to get the computer up and running. Even if you have to start over removing infections, this is preferable to a dead PC thanks to having System Restore turned off. Clean the restore folder and set a new point AFTER the PC is clean and all programs are working properly.
So turn on System Restore.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.
