Since it appeared out of nowhere, I'd first suggest scanning for malware.

Here's some links to free, online scans:

Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully:

Thanks John

I did everything except Housecall. Will try that next. In my search I found that my IE7 may be corrupt so when I have a chance I'll run SFC. (may not be 'till the weekend). Also read I may need to Extract a new copy of the Inetcpl.cpl file. Not quite sure how to do that however

Thanks

Housecall came up clean. I will run the SFC scan over the weekend and hope for the best.

Try going to Start and typing in "iexplore -extoff" (without the quotes), then clicking on the link - does it work then? If so, then it's likely that an add-on in Internet Explorer is causing the problem.

If not, then I'd suspect one of your security programs may have a setting that will cause this behavior. Another thing to check would be the Outlook options for a similar setting (I don't use Outlook, so I'm not familiar with the settings it has for security or privacy).

Yes, if you ran "iexplore -extoff" that's what you should be seeing. Then try to open a link from the email (what I'm trying to do is to force the email to use the currently open IE window) - if it opens in the AddOns disabled window of IE, then it's likely an add-on that's causing the problem.

If it doesn't do this, then it's most likely (IMO) that there's a security setting somewhere that's preventing this. I'd suggest checking all of your security applications for settings relating to email permissions.

Thanks again John
I checked Avast and all the settings seem to be OK. I even disabled Avast for a few seconds to see if I could access some of the links but NG

Googling for the error brings up the following solution to try first, if you have not already:

Click Start, select Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom and select Internet Explorer
Click OK

Yep, try that using the first steps under "RESOLUTION" - don't do the registry edit thing yet.
Then reboot and see if you can open link.

Then check the entry in the registry if it doesn't work. If the entry isn't there, let us know and we'll post some code to replace it. If it is there, that means that there's some more troubleshooting to do.

Is there any possibility of you posting one of the links (if it's not too personal) so that we can see exactly what you can't access?

I think it's resolved. I went back and rechecked my default settings, didn't see anything for Outlook (only Windows mail). I checked off 2 items regarding Outlook, restarted, All seems good. I'll give it another day just to make sure.

Thank you everyone for your help
Tom
