I just recently ordered a Gateway® P-172S FX Edition with the intent of upgrading it's RAM from 3GB to 4GB. I know it has one 2GB stick and one 1GB stick, so I only need to purchase one more 2GB stick. The question I have is about compatibility. I'm not sure which stick of RAM to get. There are many to choose from and I don't know which one(s) will work on my new lappy.

I would like to buy the RAM from NewEgg because they have great prices and have treated me very well in the past (Also, I will be purchasing a laptop cooler from them at the same time to save on shipping).

Can someone please recommend the best/fastest/cheapest (respectively) 2GB RAM stick from NewEgg?

With DDR2, it is best to have a matching pair of modules. According to the specifications at the Gateway website in the link you provided, the memory uses Intel chips. You should try to match that. Newegg carries Crucial. I used their calculator to find this
I believe Crucial still has free shipping

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Thank you very much for your help. I've decided to go with the ones from the website you provided.
