I formatted my external harddrive on this computer. its a 500gb WD brand

My computer (xp) cant detect it anymore. It just appears as an unformated "Local Disk"

when i plug it into my laptop (vista) it works just fine.

This happened once before, but there wasnt anything I would miss on it so i just reformated it again.

In the past, once every couple days my computer would stop detecting it like now, But when I unplug it and plug it back in, it would work again. It dosent work this time.

this time, I think it stopped working after i did a system restore to get rid of DNS4error; after I undid the restore, it still didnt work

Anyone know how to fix this??

Have you tried a different USB port? Open Device Manager and expand all of the +'s. Look for yellow exclamation points, indicating a faulty device

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

Try uninstalling the USB drivers in the Device Manager and reinstalling them.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
