Good Evening,

Have a XP Home machine that is just crippled upon boot up. It has 100% cpu usage and never really goes down. I ran TrendMicro and it found 3 trojans in dll files (sysdrc, jwne, iconz.exe), which i deleted. Ran Adaware, CWSShredder, and Spybot all in safe mode and removed whatever it found. Turn on viewing all hidden and system files and deleted all temp internet directory files as well as local settings/temp directory files. I ran HiJackThis under the normal boot up but then really wasnt able to connect to the net so i am back in safe mode now. The log however was done in normal mode. Service pack two was installed about an hour ago. Any help is truly appreciated. Everything just ceases to run or lags so badly at 100% usuage. Thanks for any guidance:

ChrisHman,

Please read through these directions before proceeding:
Print out these instructions for reference:

Download the LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
HERE is the file.

Download this file and save it to your desktop.
Close all browsers and windows.
Now run LSPfix:

1. Check "I Know What I'm Doing" box.
2. Select all instances of calsp.dll (and nothing else).
3. Move these instances to the remove pane.
4. Click Finished.

Scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items, don't fix anything just yet.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.begin2search.com/sidesearch.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ASDPLUGIN] C:\WINDOWS\system32\enter.exe -N
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LSASS Authority] lshosts32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [LSASS Authority] lshosts32.exe

O16 - DPF: {41D13E9A-BB94-402A-8502-AFA78526B63D} (iiittt Class) - http://www.thesearchmall.com/toolbar/winsrm32.cab

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

O23 - Service: Content Monitoring Tool (msCMTSrvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msCMTSrvc.exe (file missing)

Close all browsers and open windows and click Fix Checked

Update your current Virus Scan Definitions and Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D

Do a search on your system and remove the following folders/files if found.

Start | Search all files
lshosts32.exe

Reboot into Safe Mode and Scan with Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE
Then Scan with your Anti-Virus Program

Delete your temp files:

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty Your Recycle Bin.

Reboot normally and post a new HJT log by using Add Reply:

Thanks,
rstones12

Hi,

Thanks for the response. HiJack wouldnt let me remove mad.dll, gave me an Error #5. TrendMicro found calsp.dll file to contain a Trojan so i deleted it. Spybot removed everything except the vx2/f items and even after restart it wasnt able to remove them. Symantec DeepSight extractor seems to have been the culpret of the usage issue so i removed it. Thanks again for looking over this. Here is the most recent log:

I had a feeling about the mad.dll file

This one is tough to remove so lets start.

Go to Start | Run > type regsvr32 /u mad.dll (there are spaces following "regsvr32" and ''u') then press 'ENTER'

You should be notified that UnregisterServer in mad.dll has succeeded.

If successful do search on your system and remove;
mad.dll

In normal mode if it wont let you delete it, try in Safe Mode.

Let me know if it is successful. Post back a new HJT log when complete.

Thanks,

Chris,
Well the mad.dll is a tough one to get rid of.
Lets try an automated tool to see if it does the job.

Please download A2 Squared HERE
It is a free trojan scanning product.

I would like to try this first before we have to get into editing the registry with removing the mad.dll file.
I want to make sure you are comfortable with doing that.

Once you install A2, make sure to update it first.

Reboot into Safe Mode and then Scan with A2, this will take a little time.

Reboot normally.
