I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S809 laptop that I've been pretty happy with until the spacebar suddenly died. When I took it off, I noticed that there are two of the traditional double pronged springs on either side but in the middle, there was just a goop (silicone perhaps?) that was giving the spacebar its spring. The goop (very scientific term, I know!) eventually got worn out which means the spacebar no longer reacts. Has anyone had experience with this kind of keyboard? I'm wondering whether I can substitute something else for the blob that got worn out instead of replacing the whole keyboard.

Thanks in advance!

That glop is a preformed rubber membrane. I can recommend where to get the ones under the normal keys. I'll check on the space bar and post back

It's a store on eBay. I've used the 4 or 5 times without any problems.

Thanks so much for the info & link, garmanma. That's definitely a much lower cost solution than replacing the keyboard. I don't see that they mention the spacebar specifically but I'm going to e-m them. Thanks again!
