urrently I've got the PCI-E Radeon x700 Pro installed in my PC. Last Sunday I updated my driver to the newest 8.4. After I updated, I entered a game I play called Lord of the Rings Online. I noticed an odd problem, when I typed my text entered at a crawl, and I'd lose control of my avatar. If I was running forward, I'd release all buttons and continue on my way for 10 seconds or so after, and this occurrs often. I thought maybe it was the driver, so I removed it and tried several new ones. I've tried 7.12, 7.11, 7.9, and now 8.3 and the problem continues. I get this problem even if I'm playing other games that don't make use of the internet in any manner. I'm really at a loss on how to fix this.

I suggest uninstalling all old ATI drivers and software...reboot...reinstall the drivers that came on CD (and which worked without problems).

My PC's OS and drivers were pre-loaded, I don't have any CD's. Beyond that, those drivers are extremely old. I updated them like a year or so ago, I just don't remember what driver version it was.

What kind of connection do you have to the net? Because if its dialup that use to happen to me all the time.

I would rather be a little overkill with my computer. Than to have my computer be killed.

It's a cable connection, but it's not internet based. This occurs even when I play games that aren't using the net.

Well...I believe there is little point in updating drivers for hardware which is working correctly, especially ATI cards or chipsets.

Regardless of how old those drivers were...if they worked, they are better than the new ones you have currently installed, IMO.

System manufacturer and model?

Did you download the Catalyst Suite or just the display driver?

Version 8.4 is available, http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst...p=xp/radeonx-xp

I have 2 old AIW cards and I find that removing all old drivers...makes for a decent install of new.

Yeah, I see that now. I've tried several times to system restore back to the old drivers with no luck. Sadly, I don't know which driver I had installed for the GPU, I failed to check. I've tried 8.4, and no luck. I'm currently on 8.3, after trying 7.12, 7.11, 7.9. I installed both the driver and Catalyst.
