Hi,
My laptop is infected by the Virtumonde trojan. This was recognized by the Spybot S&D.
I have tried using Spybot S&D (in normal and safe mode). It deletes the dlls and registry entries but then the trojan regenerates itself.
I have tried Vundofix - but this does not find the Virtumonde in the scan (again in normal and safe mode).
Tried deleting the dlls using KillBox - but that obviously did not work.

Am currently running on Safe mode with Networking as thats the only way i can work uninterrupted.

Would appreciate any help.

Regards
SM

Hi SM1978!

My name is Pat and I'll be taking your log today. Please allow me some time to examine it, and I'll get back to you with some instructions as soon as I can!

While we are fixing your computer, if I haven't replied within 24 hours, please send me a private message as a little reminder.

Thanks for waiting

User Questions

Do you recognise these?
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = ad.infosys.com
O17 - HKLM\Software\..\Telephony: DomainName = ad.infosys.com
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = ad.infosys.com
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = ad.infosys.com

If you do, could you tell me what they are related to?

Viewpoint Manager

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This changed from what we know in 2006 read this article:

http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

I suggest you remove the program now. Click on start > run > and then paste the following into the "open" field: appwiz.cpl and press OK. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following if they exist: Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player.

Jotti

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please click this link-->Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

C:\WINDOWS\Resources\KernelSys.dll

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

ComboFix

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
For more information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

In your next reply, I would like to see:

  • The Jotti Report
  • Your Answers to my Users Questions
  • The ComboFix Log
  • The New Hijackthis Log
