My 6 month old Samsung HDD has started making intermittent loud clicking noises and these are not sounds that it has made before.

Can anyone recommend a free utility which can identify if there are mechanical problems with a drive?
I've already tried 'HDD Health' and 'DiskCheckup', but they don't help.

I suspect that these are just the early warning signs before a disk failure...

If that sound is what I think it is, it's known as the click of death.

You can download the Samsung Diagnostic tool here.

If this drive is only six months old it is still under warranty.

Yeah I'd echo that that too!
If all else fails, hit the reset button.
