Scanner problem

I purchased a canon 9900f almost two years ago and have recently come a accross a problem - when i go to import scanner through photoshop 'error' appears on screen and tells me 'could not open twain source' i click 'ok' and the message 'make sure there is a valid source for your scanner in the twain directroy found in windows directory'. i unistalled software and reinstalled and still the same error messages pop up! i am on pc windows xp professional.

Can you use the scanner in other programs?
