Well...have you done any maintenance on the system?
XP Chkdsk, Using the Graphical Version (My Computer) - http://www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-chkdsk.html
Run chkdsk, following the instructions for the Graphical Version. Put check marks in both options (scan, recover).
After chkdsk has completed and the system has rebooted, run defrag on the drive.

As for your programs...I see three that I automatically would remove: Limewire, Real/Real Player, and Windows Messenger.
How much RAM/memory installed?
How much free space on the C: partition?
