Problems on startup

Hi,
when i restart my computer, it starts out normally, it says windows xp then loads but after xp is done loading i get a black screen. Sometiems it does it and sometimes it dosent do it when it dosent give me the blank screen it loads all the users but when i logon it just loads the background. Sometimes im lucky enough (like now) to have the computer fully reboot. I dont know if its hardware or a virus can you guys help me out? :thumbsup:

When asking questions here please supply as much information as possible. It isn't easy to help you solve problems without some of this information. If you dont know all of this information please provide as much as you know or ask us and we can point you in the direction of some great system information tools to help you in this regard.

Again knowing your full system specs would help

Im beginning to think its a os error

Have you considered reformatting

CPU:(Whats this?)

Hard drive size:40 gigs

Amount of memory installed:256?

Sound card:?

Video adapter:?

When did the problem start:about 10 days ago

What you were doing when the problem first appeared:installing all of my programs (we moved and i reformatted my computer)

Any new software or hardware installed recently:yes

Any other information you think might help:400MHz dont know where that goes
and i kept all of my drivers on the pc so i didnt reinstall those
