Hello,

I was infected with a smitfraud virus yesterday which prevented me from opening any files or programs and flashed up a crazy looking screen telling me my privacy was at risk. A friend spent a few hours helping me to get rid of it using super antispyware, spybot and malwarebytes anti malware, but each time it seemed to pop back up again. My computer seems to be more or less ok now (relatively speaking!), but when I boot up my desktop is white (although i can still the icons on it), I can't access internet explorer, and its running much slower. When i right click on the desktop and look at properties it tells me its a firefox document with a URL: file://C:\WINDOWS\privacy_danger\index.htm

Hope you can help, Thanks!

Hi

Please follow these directions to run Combofix & post a log.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

THEN ...

You are running an out-of-date version of java

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall any earlier versions ...in your case :-

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Then You can go here and install the latest version of Java.

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6' and press the 'Download' button.

Running an out-of-date version of java is an infection risk.

-
I would also like to see the SUPERAntiSpyware, and malwarebytes anti-malware logs, if you have them ...
