Ok, my brother has a compaq laptop with a CD-RW/DVD drive and lately for some weird reason it won't recognize any CD at all, not at start up or even in windows. It only recgnozies DVDs...

And I can't format it for him cause it won't boot to the CD. I want to ask a question here before i send it out to radioshack (we have a 5 year warranty with them). So yea, anybody got any help?

I blowed on it, and that didn't help. It just seems to have problems with CDs. Like last night we rented a DVD and watched it on the Xbox, and even tested it on hislaptop. and the DVD worked...

and yes all the CDs that i've tested work in my computer.

Hey guys...

Before you hand it to Radio Shack I would call the HP/Compaq support line.

800-474-6836

They can help you out over the phone, and if needed, setup a pick up for your laptop. I have used this service several times and have been pleased. If I am not mistaken, most service providers now have to send laptops in. I don't think they can do the repair on site.

Good luck
