In Windows XP SP2, I cannot set iTunes as my default program for audio files. When I use the set program option, Window appears to accept my choices but they are not retained. When I access iTunes it tells me that I do not have access privileges to make it the default player. I am signed in as the administrator when attempting to make the changes. Any suggestions?

Yes. Those are the instructions that I am using. I don't know if iTunes is the problem. Windows accepts all of my changes except the default audio player.

You could TRY to do it manually, but you'd have to do it for every Audio Format you want iTunes to be the default player for.

I'll use, an mp3 as an example, just do the same for any other file formats.

Find a .mp3 file on your computer.

Right click it, hover your mouse of "Open With >" and menu will pop out the side, choose "Choose Program..."

Pick iTunes from that list, and under the browser, check the box that says "Always Use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Press OK

Hope it helps
