I have about a 3 second delay whenever I click on my screen. That is, I click on an icon, and there is an hourglass for about 3 - 5 seconds before anything happens. In Outlook, the program freezes often when it tries to open Word as the editor. Outlokk also often freezes when trying to open an attachment. The CPU utilization is not over 30% when Idle, and I seem to have plenty of memory. The computer just seems so slow even after Norton and Spyware S&D scans. I am hoping it is some sort of undetected malware in the background.

My IE7 freezes often, my Task MAnager even freezes when I try to use it to close frozen applications. When I try and shut down my computer, it freezes at the blue screen LOGGING OFF and I have to shut it off manually. That used to result in a an auto scandisk when logging back on, but not anymore.

I have already done a complete SCANDISK and DEFRAG prior to HiJAckThis.

I do have more than 60 icons on my desktop( many nested in folders), and I do not know if that might be causing the problem. It might cause some delay to start up, but I assume that once the machine is up and running, the icons are a minor drag on system performance.

The computer almost runs too slowly to be useful at all, yet I have a pretty powerful CPU and 1.5 gig of memory.

I do not know how to edit my startup or services logs in my configuration to determine what is necessary or not. It is too difficult to determine what programs that many of the entries are even linked to.

Hi Hooterdawg
Sorry for the delay in answering your post.
If you still need help could you please post back a new Hjt log.... things change so quickly and we need to see what's happening now.

Also:
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This program will now start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Thanks

Starbuck
