Hi,

I have various problems that are getting worse. I read through your preparation guide and followed it as far as I could. I will explain further in a sec. First my issues: Extremely slow computer, often bringing up lack of memory errors. Icons not displaying on taskbar. Multiple programs are failing to initialize. Unable to bring up certain menus and options. Unable to paste. Popups.

Yesterday it began really. Suddenly barraged with popups, change of wallpaper and various other errors. I ran Spybot, Adaware, and Ewido (Now Avg i guess). It cleared out a lot of issues but my computer still was progressively worse and worse. Late last night the issue with the computer slowing down, and most of those things I already explained started.

I know I have quite a few problems revolving around trojans.

Now, step 4 of the prep guide; enabling a firewall, I was unable to do. When I bring up the network connections in my control panel it says something like unable to detect network connections and it shows the file blank. However I am able to still connect to the net. When I clicked on change windows firewall settings it brings up a window saying Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed becaues the associated service is not running.

Step 5 running kaspersky also didnt work. I tried multiple times but it froze on searching for newer versions without being able to establish connection. After pushing skip, it gave another popup window that stated that The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. It said it can occur if I am running in safe mode (which I am not) or if not correctly installed (which I do not know but had worked before).

I did download and run deckards system scanner. At least that worked... However even though I can copy, I can't paste as previously noted so I attached them as thats the best I can do. It did not bring up the window asking to update hijack. I know my version is old because its been years.

I also had run combofix and have a log for that but I saw it was stated not to initially attach that.

I know you guys are busy but I would really appreciate the help. I already tried on another site with no luck (they never got back to me) so I am hoping you can help.

Hello Lumie,

Welcome to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum, sorry about the delay, but the amount of people posting with infected computers is through the roof and sometimes we can't get to logs as fast as we would like to.

If your not being helped on another forum and still need assistance, download and install Hijackthis by Trendmicro. Paste the log into this thread, please do not attach it.

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
