Sorry if this is a stupid question or explained badly.

I have put two programs into the Startup Folder (Docs & Settings/Me/Start Menu/Programs/Startup), so they start automatically. When running, they're visible in the Taskbar.

I'd like Outlook Express to be the first to load, so it will always be at the LH side of the Taskbar - it's easier to find when it's there. However, the second of my two programs (Firefox) now opens first and loads several "tabs" (one for each open window) before Outlook Express appears. I'e tried adding the Firefox shortcut to Startup after I've added the OE shortcut, but that doesn't help. Maybe they open alphabetically - F(irefox) or M(ozilla) before O(utlook)?

Whatever, is there a way I can manage the order of opening? Or, a way to manage the "tabs" on the Taskbar?

Thanks

Hello. Welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Yes, the programs in the startup folder are loaded alphabetically. So you would want to name the short cuts:
a_firsttostart
b_second
c_third
etc...

Remember what you put in are just shortcuts, so it won't affect anything else.

I think I would want my firewall and anti-virus applications to be the first things to load up, but that's just my thinking

Garmanma, I've set them to load automatically, as part of the install. But thanks for the reminder - it made me check, just for re-assurance.

Regards

Just remember that the Startup Folder isn't the only thing that loads at startup. The All Users startup folder also loads, as do several registry entries, services, etc
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
