Hello, I did it again and clicked on the wrong thing. Now I've got a variety of rouge antispyware that pops up. The internet only works in the safe mode (IE). The Windows task manager is disabled. Also I have the dreaded yellow triangle with ! in the system tray. I wasn't able to run Kaspersky due to the effect of the infection. I get this "Brave Sentry 2.0" that pops up at start up, now it prevents me from doing anything. Also a scan which starts up "Anti Virus Pro"...I could go on. Now somehting is restarting the computer all by itself.

Deckard's system logs follow. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hello and welcome eddie
You have quite the collection of nasty garbage running on the machine

A backdoor Trojan can allow an attacker to
gain control of the system, log keystrokes, steal passwords, access personal
data, send malevolent outgoing traffic, and close the security warning
messages displayed by some anti-virus and security programs.

I would advise you to disconnect this PC from the Internet, and then go to
a known clean computer and change any passwords or security information held
on the infected computer. In particular, check whatever relates to online
banking financial transactions, shopping, credit cards, or sensitive
personal information. It is also wise to contact your financial institutions
to apprise them of your situation.

We will do our best to clean the computer of any infections seen on the log.
However, because of the nature of this Trojan, I cannot offer a total
guarantee that there are no remnants left in the system, or that the
computer will be trustworthy.

Many security experts believe that once infected with this type of Trojan,
the best course of action is to reformat and reinstall the Operating System.
Making this decision is based on what the computer is used for, and what
information can be accessed from it.

Knowing the above, let us know if you wish to proceed.

Thank you for the speedy and through reply. I appreciate the risks involved, but would like to give it a go and try to clean the system.

This computer is used for personal use and mainly for web surfing. I do not save my passwords on the occasion that I do online banking or other bills on this computer. I cannot locate the windows reinstall disk (well I probably could with a huge amount of searching), so this isn't the best option for me. Thanks again.

Very well

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

The machine is badly infected its going to take some to get it sorted out.

We need to get an AV running on this machine as well but limit your online time and lets run this next tool to get the machine a bit more stable

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Please download SDFix by AndyManchesta and save it to your desktop.
When using this tool, you must use the Administrator's account or an account with "Administrative rights"
  • Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
  • (this is the drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix).
  • DO NOT use it just yet.
Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Open the SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts, the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt in your next replyalong with a new HijackThis log.
-- If this error message is displayed when running SDFix: "The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator. Press any key to continue..."
Please go to Start Menu > Run > and copy/paste the following line:
%systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\swreg IMPORT %systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\Enable_Command_Prompt.reg
Press Ok and then run SDFix again.

-- If the Command Prompt window flashes on then off again on XP or Win 2000, please go to Start Menu > Run > and copy/paste the following line:
%systemdrive%\SDFix\apps\FixPath.exe /Q
Reboot and then run SDFix again.

-- If SDFix still does not run, check the %comspec% variable. Right-click My Computer > click Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables and check that the ComSpec variable points to cmd.exe.
%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

Ran SDFix, and things "appear" to be almost back to normal, actually startup sequence is now super quick and smooth.

There is one annoying exception. I'm getting this error popup during startup when desktop icons are loading, again, no delay in loading or anything, but it says: RUNDLL as the title, "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\uovyknhn.dll The specified module could not be found". But I clicked ok and it had no effect.

I do have zone alarm (free version) running on this computer. However, I have disconnected the computer from the internet for the timebeing until infection is resolved. I do have a 2nd computer with internet access and a flash drive to transfer files so I can read the forum.

Log file follows. Thanks for everything so far. Please advise if there may be further infection.

Unfortunately, the yellow triangle w/! is back in the system tray, and I still get the occasional popup (from the yellow triangle) regarding the system being infected, but functionality is much much better.

New DSS scan follows...

when did you download smitfraudfix ?

Lets have you download it again please

Please download SmitfraudFix

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I downloaded smitfraudfix in my vain attempt to fix myself prior to contacting you.

I have just now re-downloaded it from your link.

I rebooted just prior to your reply and have had the computer on for about 15 mins. No yellow triangle, but after about 15 mins, I did get one minor popup titled "Security System Professional control panel" Possible Spyware detection detected...Threat Name Trojan downloader.xs. But I clicked it off and that was that.

smitfraud log follows.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Good deal

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\icasServ.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cxmvsdqt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\juvedcpw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\azexifiz.exe

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"NWEReboot"=-
"f4ba8631"=-
"icasServ"=-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"ugwrtixt"=-
"Ppss"=-
"Atmagu"=-
"QdrModule15"=-
"QdrPack15"=-
"cziqxtux"=-
"opttjbtb"=-

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
