Posted 12 April 2008 - 09:43 AM

Recently, my programs will randomly crash, and I'll get a pop-up saying a De-Bugger has crashed. (But then all of my programs will close.) It happens often, and whenever it does, my computer will majorly slow down, and I have to reboot.

The Kaspersky scanner has found some infections, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but this had fallen to page 12 and I don't think I would get any help if it stayed back there.

Again I apologize, I know I'm supposed to wait five days.

OK Scorpp, I'm back.

I need to know which version of Norton by Symantec you have/had on your machine? There are several including the following: Norton Anti Virus, Norton SystemWorks, Norton Internet Security Suite and Norton Ghost. Please advise me in your next reply.

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner
Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
Follow the Instruction here for installation.
Accept the License Agreement.
Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
The scan will take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Thanks,

tw

Sorry for the delay, I haven't forgotten you Scorpp. I am still working on your problem. As a Senior Class Trainee all of the logs I am working with have to be checked by a coach and they are swamped right at the moment between the ones they themselves are working and trying to help trainees with theirs also.

Will post back just as soon as possible.

Hi Scorpp,

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

When you uninstalled your Norton, did you make sure you got all aspects of it? The reason I ask is because there are signs of Norton still running on your machine.

I used the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall it, so I'm pretty sure I got rid of it all.

1) I need you to go to Start>Run and then type the following in exactly as I wrote it. Be sure to include the quote marks.

sc stop "Symantec Core LC"
sc delete "Symantec Core LC"

After completion close the window..

2) Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries* listed below:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please run a new HijackThis log.

When completed, please post a new HJT log and tell me how your computer is running.
