Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

I've read through your other post, but can you update on the current problems that you are still having with your computer?

Hi Sam, and thanks!

I've noticed that when I boot up and have entered my password the computer stalls longer than usual before continuing. Whenever I'm shutting down the computer and it's closed all the desktop icons and the task bar, leaving the wallpaper up it "hangs" there for a longer time than usual. Then sometimes a message will come up. Like in my other post when I mentioned the Wal-Mart download store was trying to connect. And when I removed that program it started using another one; now it's a firewall that's installed but disabled ( I never could configure it properly so I disabled it at start-up and I'm using a different one). The message claims to be from the CA Personal Firewall and says "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that's unavailable", and it says something about selecting the path C:\Windows\Installer and CAPF.msi. Sorry I can't give the whole exact message...it doesn't happen every time; the computer then completes shutting down.

Another message that happened at shutdown (only one time) named ccSVCHst.exe and said an attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction. And I also get a message about a Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error from Program:C\windows\system32\rundll32.exe, R6030-CRT not initialized.

I hope you can help me get this cleaned up...I'm pretty panicked and paranoid, and don't know now what to allow or deny whenever my firewall asks about something. I've tried looking this infection up in a couple of places and can't seem to find it listed. Other than these messages the computer seems to behave normally but I don't know what might be happening that I can't see.

I'd also like to ask, since I was told before not to change any settings on the computer before someone helped me, if that meant I couldn't do a Windows Update? It downloaded but is not installed yet.

Thanks again.

Yes, you can go ahead and install the Windows update.

Can you post a new log from DSS? Also include the second log, which should be named extra.txt

Don't know what I'm doing wrong but nothing comes up but the main text. I'll keep trying but here's the main log:

It may not have opened up, but the log should be named extra.txt
If you can find it, please post it.

I don't think you have a malware problem. In fact, I think the opposite is true. You seem to have 2 firewall programs running and 2 antivirus programs running. This is something that you should never do as they conflict with each other, as they appear to have done in your case. You need to establish one antivirus program and one firewall to use and then uninstall the others.

If you can post that other log I'll help you identify which programs to remove.

Sam, I've tried several times and a minimized window of extra text is not coming up. Searching the documents, only the one from the 10th shows up. Should I try removing and re-installing dss?

Regarding the two firewalls, only Comodo is enabled. I had purchased the CA firewall upgrade back in January and was unable to configure it like the previous version so I had un-checked it at the msconfig start-up menu and tried out Comodo instead. And only the Comodo firewall is in the system tray, so not sure why it shows up as running.

You mean I didn't really have a trojan horse or a rootkit put on my computer...that's a relief. But these antivirus/malware programs conflicting with each other, would that account for other applications that haven't been used in a long time suddenly wanting to connect to the internet at shutdown? I ask this because it happens after everything running in the system tray has been shut down. I do appreciate your help and am sorry to be asking so many questions. I hope I will be able to get the other log up so you can tell me what to remove.

Don't worry about asking questions, that's how you learn.

Just because you have CA's firewall disabled doesn't mean that it's not affecting things. If you want to keep Comodo, then you should uninstall CA.

What kind of programs are you having trying to connect to the net?

When BO Clean reported that it had found and removed the Trojan, I started getting messages (From Comodo Firewall) about the Wal-Mart Music Downloads Store trying to connect to the internet. Each time I denied it...it's probably been over a year since I even purchased music from that site and couldn't imagine any reason for it to all of a sudden be trying to connect on its own. It kept on and on, and had a windows installer window open...since it was being denied access it couldn't download anything (I hope), but every time I tried to close the window or cancel it it'd open back up and try again. I went to Control Panel and removed the Wal-Mart downloads program. After that I started getting the message about CA Personal Firewall when I shut the computer down. The router has already been unplugged by then and it gives me the message about the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

A new thing that started happening is that BO Clean is giving a message that it has encountered an error and needs to close. I don't know if it's related to this problem or if it's conflicting with Norton but thought I'd mention it.

So do you want me to go ahead and uninstall the CA Firewall at this time?

First let me assure you that none of this is related to malware. Your Walmart program was likely just trying to update itself. More of an annoyance than a security risk probably.

Go ahead and uninstall the CA Firewall now.
If you continue to get an error with Boclean, then I would uninstall it also, reboot, and then reinstall it.

Hi Sam,

I'm glad this topic wasn't closed before I could get back and tell you what happened..I wouldn't want to look like I just blew off your advice after you've been helping me.

Apparently my computer's hard drive has failed. I had gotten to the point of clicking remove to the CA firewall, and it gave me an odd message "Please wait while Windows configures the CA firewall". Then the computer went dead. I tried to turn it back on after a few minutes and the first time it got as far as the Toshiba splash screen, then the screen went off. After that there was no hard drive activity at all. It had behaved sluggishly when I had first gotten on, so I guess it was going out all along. I just now got my old computer hooked up temporarily while I wait to see what they'll do about the warranty coverage and wanted to thank you again for your help. I am relieved that it wasn't malware and no passwords or anything was getting stolen.

Sorry to hear about your hard drive. That's never a good experience.

Take care.
