Hi 66#1,

Welcome to the forums.

Just a couple of optional fixes in that log. Both of these are resource hogs that are not required at startup.

Run HiJackThis, scan and place a check mark next to the following
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

With no windows or browser windows open, including this one, hit "Fix checked"

To disable "tkbell.exe" in the new version (1) Start RealOne Player (2) Tools ->

Preferences (3) Automatic services in the Categories pane (4) Uncheck all options and then OK.

Reboot.

I'd like you to download and install this free program
http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
On the downloads page you will find Cleanup312.exe
Install and run this. This will delete the contents of C:\Temp, Windows Temporary Folder, Temporary Internet Files, cookies, Recycle Bin etc.

Were you experiencing any particular problems?

Picard,

Thanks! I will do that and report back to you.

I experienced a major slowdown last week after downloading Norton Internet Security 2005. It slowed my computer to an absolute crawl. Before that I had just had Norton Anti-Virus 2003 which came with my computer. I subscribed to Live-Update and kept my defintions up to date. I also scanned my computer fairly regularly.

I dumped Norton altogether and downloaded the free AVG anti-virus program. It was like night and day. My computer ran so much better, but then it slowed down somewhat in Internet Explorer again. Perhaps this is my ISP though?

Hi 66#1,

Are you on dial-up or DSL/Cable? My old dial-up connection speed was seriously reduced during busy periods.

You're not alone in experiencing a slowdown when using NIS.

Have you tried a different browser?
