Computer Slows To A Crawl And Often Freezes

My desktop response time for virtually everything keeps slowing down and often freezes up. I suspect some kind of virus, trojan, perhaps a messed up setting, but have no idea how to resolve it.

Would appreciate some help in resolving this.
