Is there a orange light on the monitor, which is normally green? Does the monitor display any sort of message onscreen, or is it just blank?

Hi gibby150,

I don't know if the problem is solved. The first thing your friend may try is to turn off the PC and the monitor. Unplug both of them, wait a while say about 30 sec and then plug them and turn them on.
