So, I am new with this program and have decided to run it before i do my upgrades. I am assuming my comp is stable since its been running for a year, but why not really stress it and check it. I was wondering a couple things though. my help for it doesnt work for some reason, it did earlier, this is why i need to ask some questions.

does the program need to keep running overnight? it says that it wont be finished till like May 24th or something. Do i let it go, or can i shut down? ok, it looks like the expected completion date has changed to May 17th.

are there any options i needed to change before running it? even when i stopped it once, it started back up again after my restart.

do i need to change the affinity to do each core?

i set it to run for an hour i thought, but it has been going for about 8 now.

what exactly does this program do? uses your computer for work? is there any real purpose for it? will my computer ever be this stressed? should i just use something like Orthos instead?

Are you using this to do a Mersenne number search? This could keep the computer going till sometime in the future.

Wikipedia has a good article on Prime95.

There's an option that I use in Prime95 (at work) that runs a "Torture Test" - and it just keeps running until you tell it to stop. That way you can let it run as long as you'd like.
