Hi,

Search results for 'catroots' on google shows that it is a game or something to do with a game. What are the exact names of these three files and where are they located on your computer.

This should help in finding out whether they are harmful files or not.

Hello Ophelia and welcome to BC

In order to provide you with correct advice etc. we need more information.

What is your operating system: Windows XP, Vista, etc.?

What security programs do you have installed? Please name them.

Please provide the complete filepath for the files you are wondering about. Proper spelling and capitalization is essential in these instances. The slightest differences mean the difference between a legitimate file and a bad file. It's like mushrooms, there are very poisonous ones that look strikingly similar to good edible mushrooms.

Here is an example of a file path:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\lsprst7.dll

lsprst7.dll <-- File name
SYSTEM32 <-- The folder the file is in.
WINDOWS <-- The folder that SYSTEM32 is in
C <-- The drive the WINDOWS folder is on.

Hi Da Chew

Zone Alarm and AVG did not find anything each time I ran them seprately, which I found very strange, I also ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware which did not pick up on this malware

Toolbar programs are a grey area for some, I prefer not to let any on my computer, reading the eula is too time consuming

If your computer seems to be running fine and there's no more sign of infection I would follow this advise
