When I scan my computer with spybot it finds virtumonde.dll but when i click "fix selected problems" my computer just restarts. When i log back in a microsoft error pops up and says it has just recovered from a serious error. I use firefox so I dont get any pop-ups but I accidently clicked on a link i think on youtube or something and it was tryin to send an email threw outlook and it opened 61 internet explorer windows. I just right clicked and choose to close group but thats the only weird thing my computer is doing. I would like to thank you guys in advance for any and all help. I currently have avg anti-virus, ad-aware 2007, spywareblaster and hijackthis:

I would like to apologize in advance I'm not trying to be difficult =/ . I ran the combo fix like instructed to but it stopped and just gave me this:

WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe
[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

I then realized avg anti-virus was still enabled so i disabled it and tried again but got the same result. I also have spyware blaster, spybot (tea timer not installed) and ad-aware 2007

i also created another hijackthis log

Alrighty.. Let's go with a different approach.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in your next reply.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

------

Along with the VundoFix log,

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Let's do something else with VundoFix..
  • Please open a new notepad window
  • Paste the list of files from the quotebox below into the notepad window.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqn.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqroon.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nqstv.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqn.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtwa.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\acbeg.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ttutv.ini2
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kmllm.ini2

  • Save this as vundofix.vft and Save as type "all files".
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Drag vundofix.vft onto the listbox (white box) of VundoFix as shown below.
    Posted Image
  • Click the "Remove Vundo" button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a fresh DSS log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

the vundofix.txt i guess still has some info from the first one but here it is:

VundoFix V7.0.3

Scan started at 12:46:33 PM 4/3/2008

Listing files found while scanning....

No infected files were found.

Beginning removal...

Performing Repairs to the registry.
Done!

and the dss info only gave the main.txt not the extra.txt not sure if he was supposed to show both but here that is as well:

VundoFix still couldn't take care of them....

Well, not to worry. Let's try something else...

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart. (see extra note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Please copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
Hi there, stranger!

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. They should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Now to clean out the Java cache:

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
  • Then click Delete Files...
  • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH checked
Applications and Applets
Trace and Log Files

  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
------

Finally, let's run another good scanner in addition to MBAM.... Then we'll continue with the manual steps if there is anything left.

Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free version)
  • Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
  • It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
  • Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
    • Close browsers before scanning
    • Scan for tracking cookies
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    • Please leave the others unchecked.
    • Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
  • On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
  • On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
  • Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
  • It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
  • To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
    • After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
    • Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
    • Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
  • Click close and close again to exit the program.
  • Please paste that information here for me.

These are the files and folders you'll want to get rid of .. Just in case SpyBot didn't.

Booting into Safe Mode and showing hidden files will do.

Then manually navigate to, and delete the following (IDME and usnv might be legit, however they seem to be empty.. so check them out):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\acbeg.ini2 < Vundo file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ttutv.ini2 < Vundo file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kmllm.ini2 < Vundo file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xTmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winz1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\usnv
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IDME
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bz3
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskkill.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Wooley\!
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Wooley\x1.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\aqVreo05

Reboot back into Normal Mode.

Then some finishing steps & tips....

Click Start -> Run and type in:

ComboFix /u

Click on OK. When shown the disclaimer, select 2. This will remove any and all remnants of ComboFix, empty the infected system restore points and create a new one, etc.

Then, to get rid of the tools we used, please download OTCleanIt and save it to desktop.
  • Double-click OTCleanIt.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to reboot during the cleanup, select YES.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.
Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTCleanIt attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

Stand Up and Be Counted ---> Malware Complaints <--- where you can make difference!

The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.

Here's some tips for future to prevent spyware:

Detect and Remove Programs:Prevention Programs:
  • Comodo BOClean <= Stop identity thieves from getting personal information. Instantly detects well over 1,000,000 unique, variant and repack malware in total. And it's free.
  • SpywareBlaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed. Detailed installation guide provided.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known adsites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Other necessary Programs:
  • Antivirus Program <= An antivirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like Avast! or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like NOD32 this is a must have. (Note to only use 1 at-the-time)
  • Firewall <= A firewall is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Comodo and Online Armor. (Note to only use 1 at-the-time)
  • More Secure Browser <= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
