ok...so I re down loaded Adaware 2007 because adawarse is no longer being updated.
When I go to run it initially after download it does the usual warning this is an executable file, and then a new one..

an external app must be launced to handle this file :links
file:///C:/documents%20and%20settings/user/desktop/aaw2007.exe

application: rundll.exe url.dll,FileProtocolhandeler %l

if you were not expecting this it may be an attempt to exploit weakness etc.

When I go ahead and click on desktop it tells me its not a valid win32 application.
WTF??

Suggestion: Rather than use a program that is unsupported (no longer providing updated definitions while malware continues to swarm every day), why not try SuperAntispyware and/or AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition?

I found some advice here.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who haven't got it.

Louis

Im not downloading an unsupported program...that would be stupid.
I have AVG anti spyware...the old unsupported adawarese actually found a worm today, so the outdated unsupported version seems to work better than AVG.
Thus the reason I want to get the new version, which for some reason wont work, thus my problem.

FWIW - Lavasoft still issues updates for AdAware SE at this link on the right side of the page: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/securitycenter/blog/ I update my portable copy with this.

AdAware SE also updates through the built in updater without any issues
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
